The Class of 1988 Scholarship Fund

We have received a number of inquiries about putting together some kind of tribute to those in our class who have passed over the last 20 years. Among them was Joe Keller, who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as a hero.

For those of you unfamiliar with this story, Joe was working at the time as a Department Head at the Marriott hotel at 3 World Trade Center, which was adjacent to the towers. When the planes hit, he worked along with the New York Fire Department in trying to get nearly a thousand guests out of the building. Almost everyone at that hotel was brought to safety that day, but Joe's selfless act meant he never made it out from the building when the second tower collapsed. For more info, click here.

When we gathered for our 20-year reunion, we thought this it would be a great opportunity to honor one of our own. We established a scholarship at Pascack Valley High School in his name to go to a student who truly exemplifies the ability to put others first. That is exactly what Joe did on that day seven years ago, and we would like to uphold his memory.

Our goal is to raise $3,000 so we can award a $300 scholarship over the next 10 years. Of course, if we can raise more, we'll give out more. These donations are tax deductible. We promise to give updates over the years on the students who are chosen to receive our scholarship.
